TRC Brave the Wave (The Heatwave!)

Termoneeny Running Club have been braving the heatwave attending several local runs from 5ks to Marathons last week, taking place in what can only be described at tropical conditions! The club was well represented with some pbs and age category wins achieved along the way.

Parkruns

Aisling & Michael Burke who took part in the Portrush Parkrun last week.

Portrush
Despite having braved heat at the 10k in Coalisland the night before, husband and wife team Aisling and Michael Burke had an early start on Saturday morning when they travelled to Portrush take part in the Portrush Parkrun. This was Aisling’s first Portrush Parkrun which she completed in a time of 24:73 while Michael ran his 2nd Portrush Parkrun in just 20:58! Well done!

Antrim
Ann McGarvey and Anne Breen represented the Club this weekend at Antrim Parkrun with great times of 34:11 and 34:17 respectively. Well done ladies!

MUSA
Damien O’Boyle one again made the trip to Cookstown for the MUSA Parkrun finishing in a time of 21:56, and was the 12th male home and 15th overall. Congratulations Damien.

38th Jude Gallagher Memorial “Round the Bridges” 10 Mile Road Race

TRC Runners who attended the Jude Gallagher Memorial 10 Mile Road Race.

With the temperatures soaring to almost 30 degrees earlier in the day, nine brave athletes took on the task of completing this 10 mile road race in Limavady in testing conditions. This fast paced course started at Limavady Recreation Club taking in what is one of NI’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which included 9 bridges along the way – Dowland Road Bridge, Castle Bridge, Artikelly Bridge, Ballycastle Bridge, Rathfad Bridge, Ballycarton Bridge, Swanns Bridge, Scott’s Bridge and finally the River Roe Bridge.  The first TRC runner home was 17 year old Jarlath Hughes in an amazing time of 1:02:57. In what was his first 10 mile race Jarlath came 15th overall in a strong field of over 420 runners. Our first lady home, Kerry Evans, completed the course in an impressive time of 1:21:15.

Craic in the Brack 5k

New TRC member Michelle Comer was our lone representative at the Craic in the Brack 5K, hosted by Clann Na nGael Walk / Jog / Run Club in Aughabrack County Tyrone, which also took place on Thursday evening.

In her first outing representing the Club, Michelle braved a temperature of 27 degrees to pace fellow runners who she coaches in Glenullin, around a lovely flat course in a time of 33:36 Well done Michelle and a very warm welcome to TRC!

Newell Stores 10k/5k

The highly anticipated Keep er Lit Running’s Newell Stores 10k and 5K runs took place in Coalisland on Friday evening 29th June in the continuing heatwave we have been enjoying. The event was a credit to the Keep er Lit Running Club, their title sponsor, Newell Stores and the local community who all came together to provide a top class event, with unrivalled hospitality, live entertainment and bountiful goody bags! Tommy Hughes, our former Barcelona Olympian and local running hero, who was the first TRC runner home in the 10K race was in top form, winning his 55+ category in a superb time of 39:23 and coming 29th overall out of 535 finishers. Our first lady home was Shauna Melaugh with an excellent time of 50:11.

Antrim Coast Road Marathon

Congratulations to Thomas Doherty, who represented TRC on Saturday 30th June at a VERY sunny Larne AC Antrim Coast Road Marathon. Thomas finished in an incredible time of 03:10:39 which was a PB and came 13th overall out of 187 finishers. Well done Thomas, an incredible achievement in such adverse running conditions!
