Race season in full swing for Termoneeny!

June has continued as it began, with PBs and podiums galore as Termoneeny Running Club members attended various race disciplines across the country, from Parkruns to 52 mile ultra-marathons last week.

Fairhill 5 Mile Race, Ballymena

There was a fantastic turnout of TRC runners at Wednesday evening’s popular Ballymena Runners Fairhill 5 mile race. Despite very humid conditions, everyone gave it their all, and we saw some outstanding performances from all our members. This is a double loop course from the centre of  Ballymena out to the Showgrounds and back.  Thanks to Ballymena Runners for the superb post-race hospitality! Congratulations to Tommy Hughes who was first TRC Male home, 6th overall and 1st in the M55 category.  Our first lady home was Anne O’Doherty in a super time of 36:07. Carmel’s 5K Fun Run Magherafelt

Congratulations to Declan LeungAnn Johnston and Sinead McGrogan who took part Friday evening’s Carmel’s 5k fun run/walk in Magherafelt in aid of Our Lady of Lourdes Pilgrimage Society. This was an out and back course along the Killyfaddy Road.  Declan took an impressive second place in warm conditions. Well done everyone and thanks to the organisers for the post-race refreshments.

EAMS June 6HR Challenge, Part 1

Kerry Archibald completed the half marathon distance at Friday night’s EAMS June 6 hr challenge Part 1. The race took place on the scenic coastal path from Loughshore to Gideons Green, starting at the bandstand. Well done Kerry! Unofficial time 2:18:20.



It was a family affair at Portrush on Saturday morning for the Burkes with Michael, Aisling and their daughter Aoibhe all taking part.  Congratulations to Michael who finished in just 20:19 and 6th overall. Aoibhe pipped mum Aisling to the post by one second finishing in 49:39. Great running everyone!


Also out braving the elements on Saturday morning was Michelle Comer secured her third PB in as many weeks at Limavady Parkrun, finishing in a super time of 23:40 and was the second lady home! Congratulations Michelle your progress this year has been fantastic, it’s great to see your training paying off!

Ecos, Ballymena

The Parkrun PBs continued to roll in on Saturday. Huge congratulations to Ann McGarvey and Anne Breene who both finished well at Ecos parkrun with BOTH of them scoring new PBs! Congratulations ladies, amazing results!   Ann McGarvey 30:50 PB, Anne Breene 32:36 PB.

Killyclogher 10K

Sinead McGrogan took part in the Killyclogher 10k Road Race & 5k Fun Run on Saturday morning finishing in a great time of 1:08:16.  This was fantastic running from Sinead, after taking part in a  5k the night before and the Ballymena 5 miler on Wednesday! Luckily the rain held off but conditions were warm on this pleasant course with a couple of hills to contend with.

Enniskillen 10K

Tommy Hughes made the trip to the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum to take part in the Enniskillen 10K on Saturday afternoon.  True to form Tommy put in a fantastic performance placing 3rd overall in an impressive (unofficial) time of 34:06 – congratulations Tommy!

26 Extreme Mourne Way Ultra Marathon

Fergal Hughes took on the incredible challenge of the Ultra Marathon on Saturday at the Mourne Way Marathon 2019, finishing in an unofficial time of 11:48 – what an amazing achievement Fergal – 52 miles through the tough Mourne Moutains which were also muddy, adding to the level of difficulty.  Congratulations Fergal!

St. Colmcilles 5K Fun Run

There was no let up for new member Sinead McGrogan this week as she notched up a total of 5 races! Before the Lavey 5K later in the day, Sinead took part in the St. Colmcille’s 5K Fun Run in Claudy Country Park, finishing in a fantastic time of 31:02! The course was three laps of the park with a tough uphill finish.  Well done Sinead, there’s no stopping you!

Lavey 5K

There was a great wave of support on Sunday for the Lavey 5K!  Super running from all members and their families with our own Tommy Hughes taking 2nd place and Anne O’Doherty taking second female. Run For Cuan Half Marathon, Cavan

Jacqueline McGonigle travelled to the beautiful Farnham Estate in Cavan early on Sunday morning for the Run for Cuan Half Marathon. This was Jacqueline’s 10th half marathon, and 9th this year. It was a hilly and scenic course, and despite an expected downpour of hail and rain in the latter stages Jacqueline managed to secure a pb at this distance finishing in 2:35:02, knocking over a minute and a half off her previous best time. Thanks to the staff at Farnham Estate for superb hospitality. All credit due to the organisers of this inaugural race and we hope to see it on the calendar once again next year.
