Successful weekend for Hughes family

With a career including participation in the 1992 Olympic marathon, Tommy Hughes is still adding to his portfolio of running achievements by claiming two all-Ireland records at the weekend.  On Saturday he broke the over 55 Irish record for a half marathon by finishing in third place at the Washingbay Green Run with a tremendous result of 1:13:40.  Without any sign of exhaustion from his race on the previous day, Tommy travelled to Downpatrick on Sunday to complete Jimmy’s 10k where he once again smashed the 10k over 55 Irish record in a superb time of 34:45.  Breaking two national records in consecutive days is an extraordinary accomplishment and Termoneeny Running Club is extremely proud of Tommy.

Washingbay Green Run

The aforementioned Tommy Hughes was not the only member of his family to shine at this event. Indeed his nephew, Jarlath Hughes, displayed outstanding running by comfortably winning the 5k race in a fantastic time of 17:06.  Another TRC member, Thomas Doherty, was among the leading pack of runners in the 10k and crossed the line in a time of 40:22 which placed him sixth out of a field of 128 other competitors.  Well done to all three athletes for representing the club with great prestige at this popular annual event.

Stormathon

The aptly named Stormathon still experienced some of the weather akin to the recent Storm Gareth yet this did not deter James McNally who completed the 10k at this East Antrim Marathon Series event.  The conditions were certainly not ideal but James is no stranger to a challenge and persevered with great determination.

Parkrun

MUSA

Kevin McErlean ran his 11th parkrun on Saturday morning and finished in a brilliant time of 25:59.

Antrim

Lindsay Gibson also ran her 11th parkrun and achieved a super result of 31:04

Ormeau

Showing that he is just as adept at the shorter distances as he is with long distance running was Fergal Hughes who ran Ormeau parkrun in an incredibly quick time of 20:36.
