It was an action-packed week for Termoneeny Running Club with the appearance of orange and white vests across a range of events and it culminated with two members taking part in the prestigious London Marathon.
Purple Ladies 5k
Springwell Running Club’s annual Purple Ladies 5k took place on Wednesday night and it proved to be a great success yet again. The new route was very popular with everyone and the hospitality afterwards was second to none. Tara Montgomery recovered with remarkable courage after an unpleasant fall and still continued to finish the race. The ideal running conditions ensured that fantastic performances were delivered by all TRC members.

Congratulations to Thomas Doherty who won the Cormac Run 10k in Eglish on Saturday morning. Thomas has consistently displayed superb running this season with several other podium prizes won in other events. He completed this course in a very fast time of 38:45 despite the adverse weather conditions. Well done Thomas.
Tracey Paul took on the Rampage Run at the Jungle outside Moneymore, along with her husband Richard. This was a 5k run with a difference because many obstacles had to be conquered throughout the muddy course but Tracey was fearless and enjoyed the challenge.
A large crowd of TRC members arrived in Draperstown on Sunday morning for the second Run DC 5k/10k race. There was a brilliant atmosphere to this event and it was exceptionally well organised. The TRC members in attendance ran tremendously well and Jarlath Hughes achieved a very comfortable first place in the 5k with a terrific time of 17:14. New member Catherine Paul also achieved her second personal best of the week. Appreciation is forwarded to Draperstown Celtic for their warm welcome and excellent refreshments. Well done to Jarlath on his super achievement and to all club members who took part.

EAMS #Not The London Marathon
Another instalment in the East Antrim Marathon Series took place on Sunday morning and it was marketed as a ‘rejection run’ for athletes who did not get a place in the London Marathon. Although there were no London landmarks to run past, participants still completed 26.2 miles and enjoyed the scenery of Monkstown Wood in Greenisland instead. James McNally, who is no stranger to this distance, carried out the challenge with ease and was rewarded with a striking medal. Well done James.
The headline event of the weekend was the 39th London Marathon. The club was proud to have two representatives among the crowd of 40,000 participating athletes. Christian Fortes O’Neill fulfilled one of his running ambitions by completing his first London Marathon, which made it his 55th marathon overall. Christian ran it in an excellent time of 3:36:39 which was almost identical to his result in the Paris Marathon two weeks previously. In her second marathon, Breda McPeake coped courageously with a serious injury to her Achilles but still managed to complete the course in a fantastic time of 4:49:33. Congratulations to Christian and Breda on their marvellous accomplishments.
