Sperrin Harriers Winter League Trail Series, Lough Fea
With storm Deirdre in full flow on Saturday morning, three hardy TRC runners, namely Michael Burke, Damien O’Boyle and Thomas Doherty made their way to Lough Fea for the second in this winter series, which was a 5K trail run. Made of tough stuff, the men endured atrocious weather conditions and burst river banks to put in some very strong performances with Thomas Doherty the first TRC runner home in a very quick 19:55. Thanks go to Sperrin Harriers for hosting and their postrace hospitality.
Full results: Thomas Doherty 19:55, Michael Burke 20:47, Damian O’Boyle 23:14.
Run Armagh Marathon
Also not deterred by the awful weather conditions on Saturday morning, Declan Leung and Fergal Hughes travelled to Armagh for the Armagh Christmas Cracker Marathon. The 26.2 miles consisted of 15 laps of trails around the notorious Folly Glen. Both men were on top form despite the cold, rain and wind, with Fergal securing 4th place in a time of 3:52:49!
Representing Termoneeny RC at the NW XC race at Gransha was our rising star Jarlath Hughes. Jarlath, who himself described the conditions on Saturday as “brutal”. Jarlath put in a very solid run in the fierce weather conditions winning his U20 category in a superb time of 22:40. Thanks go to City of Derry Spartans for hosting the event. Well done Jarlath!
Canicross Ireland Santa Run Dartrey, Cootehill
In much more favourable weather conditions on Sunday morning, Jacqueline McGonigle and Bobby, her three legged canine companion, once again represented Termoneeny RC in canicross trail running, this time in County Cavan. They took part in the Canicross Ireland Santa Run 5K race at Dartrey Forest near Cootehill. They managed to finish in 10th place with Bobby powering around the challenging, but beautiful trail course in an unofficial time of 28:43. Thanks go to Canicross Ireland for such a well organised and hospitable event.
